good food in small town
Went back home, and figured I would take some pics of the food.. especially those that are different from what we usually find in SG.
Had the chee cheong fun(not the HK type), which is different because
1) the fun/pasta itself is cut differently
2) it is usually eaten with things you normally associate with yong tau foo rather than plain
3) the sauce can be sweet, hot/spicy or curry
chee cheong fun, hometown style.. with stuffed brinjal, chili and beancurd skin
Ok, this one nothing special.. just nice picture haha! Nice springy noodles and good char siew.
char siew wantan mee in soup
XO fish noodles soup we've tried before, but this one the wine is different. Probably those chinese rice wine? Not sure, but they sure did put alot of it! Haha, very flavorful but the fish slices are few pieces only. And the fish noodles in wine costs $5 min.
fish noodles in wine soup
volcano chicken anyone?
The local eats nowadays in our small town is on par with KL prices (coffeeshop to coffeeshop comparison), which ranges from $3.80 to $5.50. If compare dollar to dollar, even in SG that would be food court prices with aircond thrown in. So Malaysian eats are expensive!
The above can be found from this coffeeshop in Semenyih.
Then on some days, my sis would cook. So we had porridge at home.
condiments for porridge
yummy omelette shreds
spring onion
vege
fried spring onion
cocktail mini hotdogs
I know.. alot of condiments hor? I also say...
porridge.. finally
Then on other mornings, I gotta have my cup of coffee. So coffeeshop hainan coffee is the best!
hainan coffee
The char kway teows nowadays are commonly the Penang style one. The local char kway teows that has a darker shade and is 'wetter', usually can be found at the wet market food stalls.
penang char kway teow
prawn noodles that looked spicy but actually quite pleasant to the palatte
nonya curry noodles.. also not spicy one
this drink must haf! 桔子酸梅
I had bbq chicken wings for dinner twice.. coz it's simply divine... Arrived piping hot and grilled upon order. Expect to wait for about 10-15 mins. It's actually quite expensive.. RM2 per wing.
chicken wings
Nasi lemak bought from street vendor (Malay seller).
nasi lemak with fried chicken drumstick and cockles sambal
Finally, of course cannot don't eat the black black hokkien mee!
hokkien mee
close up view
digging into 鸳鸯 or also known as 功夫炒
There you go.. introduced in one go! Enjoy!

more chrismassy sights~
And there we went, along the stretch of Orchard from Paragon leading to Somerset 313. Yea man, that's the current place to see and be seen. Apparently... haha!
So, HS and me went to get our dinner from Paragon basement, so along the way, here's what I caught on camera.
interesting sculpture
Then we ate dinner, and afterwards we passed by the M1 shop in Paragon. Long queues siah! Probably all buying iPhone? When we moved back up to the streets, it was already dark.
nice?
dazzling, with reindeers circling the tree
Then beside the lights, there's this huge Santa that'll turn slowly. In fact, it's everywhere in Ocrhard.
somehow, 'ol santa looked kinda sinister here~!
What's Orchard without the crowds. Here's an image of the people and lights.
bustling with activities on a Friday night
Finally, came to Somerset 313. The building is just like a squarish box, nothing to shout about. But there's the lights that comes and goes at its outer wall surface. Kinda interesting. It's quite cute coz the lights runs somewhat fast and yours truly was clumsily trying to capture these on camera...
no lights
with lights
Orchard Central on the outer side has far more colourful lightings.
Orchard Central
Finally, Somerset 313. Our destination for the night.
shop shop shop!
Before you enter, look up and you'll be greeted by this:
Somerset 313 has arrived!
Of course, you need to watch where you're going also. We heard a loud clink, and apparently a man has his mouth/face knocked by the glass door. It sure felt painful. Beware shoppers! Look where you're heading and if you're pushing some glass door, do it gently... There're a lot of distractions inside the shop that might make you stop and look, so try not to do so in a too abrupt manner, and the people following behind, can observe the 5 secs rule? Keep ya distance, otherwise glaring incidents might occur and tempers may fly! Preachy, I know. But safety first.
That done, HS and me did spend from like 730pm till 11pm at Somerset 313. Lots of bargains 'coz of the shops opening. Uniqlo has alot of limited offer items, and equally as many shoppers.. should look at their cashiers.. all lined up and ready to take your $$$. Kaching!!
Happy Shopping!

KL Weekend Shopping Getaway Part III
Date: 7 December 2009
Last day in KL. Quite idylic.. had breakfast at the hotel. Quite good. They had an omelette station where the chef cooks your omelette on the spot. Didn't try that as I ate the scrambled eggs and sausages (it's fried sausages, not boiled! wooHoo!) And they serve you coffee at your table. How cool was that!
After breakfast, we checked out the swimming pool (miniature!) and then went back to the hotel. Our bus is at 2pm, and we've gotta check out at 1pm.
reading newspaper
sleepy still?
Then we utilized the last complimentary drinks at the lounge and proceeded to board the bus by 1.45pm. The bus started moving before 2pm. Seems like those people that came with our bus load didn't go back with us.
The bus drives direct to Yong Ping to make a pit stop. There're restrooms, and food stalls cum a minimart that sells local produce. The washrooms were scary. The cleaning lady was cleaning it, but we had to use it. Had the feeling that the cleaning lady would use her high jet spray and spray the cubicle that I was in! Haha!
pedestrian exempted
thanks for walking together
We concluded our short getaway trip with dinner at the Concorde Hotel food court.
polished
Ade, we'll see you next time!

KL Weekend Shopping Getaway Part II
Date: 6 December 2009
Missed breakfast, 'coz too busy lazing in bed...
view from my window
Decided to take a few pics of the room...
In the bathroom, there's this contraption:
vacumn cleaner? no... hair dryer
But the most important thing in the bathroom that's fully utilized by me....
this one
Window view gets better when the sun shines higher...
postcard like
Wah.. so late already, so cannot waste time! Chop chop we went out to look for lunch at Sungei Wang. Had noodles, but HS had a mishap at that shop. Not a very good start to the day.
The girls went to get their manicure and pedicure. So I hung around to kpo.
pampering in progress..
looking french there
nicely painted nail art
ta dah!
After the pampering and girly stuffs, we went on to Pavillion. It was just a short distance walk from Sungei Wang.
Pavillion
shop shop
christmas decor inside Pavillion, looks like some kind of an art installation
a big sleigh
Was feeling rather thirsty, so we sat down for coffee @ Oldtown.
hazelnut coffee
french fries
Pavillion has a lot of branded goods on the ground floor but the price seems to be a little higher than those found in SG. At the basement, there's a Food Republic. Food Republic! SG has invaded KL! Breadtalk la etc, all there!
found outside of Pavillion, the pot changes color every now and then
orange colored
red
blue, ok.. you get the drift!
on the way to taxi stand
After Pavillion, we headed to The Curve... which we were told, is the current hang-out place for KL ppl. So took a cab from Pavillion (metered cab) and it costs us around RM27 to get to the Curve.
domed ceiling for the Curve
so much space!
restaurants
the Curve signage
Christmas decor inside the building, with cherubic angels!
And, we saw Santa.... on stilts... ha ha!
santa
For dinner, we went to eat at the Asian Courtyard. The Curve has these restaurants located at courtyards. There's one for western, asian, and forgot what else. Anyway, we went to Penang Little Cafe or something like that.
curry mee
rojak
forgot what's the name of this dish, but it has soy sauce chicken
chendol
The 八宝凉茶 tasted like it has pepper in it. Weird.
Second day ended, with a cab ride back to our hotel (no meter, RM30), and we're comfortably in bed by 1030pm.
