Macau Day 1

Macau posting for Day 1 is up! Read it here. One thing I've learnt was that, being able to converse in the country's native language has its advantages. And quite fun too!

Here's the wiki link to Macau (澳門). Geographically it is made up of Macau Peninsula (main), Taipa (氹仔) and Coloane (路環). The Macau International Airport is at Taipa. Hotels like Venetian, Galaxy are located in Taipa while the hotel that I stayed in, is at Macau Peninsula. Can choose to travel by bus or by taxi. There are two types of taxi in Macau; black and yellow. Travelling from Macau Airport (Taipa) to Macau Peninsula (near Grand Lisboa) will costs around 55-75MOP depending on whether you're travelling in the afternoon or evening time.

The bus (bus #26A) from Macau to Coloane costs about 6.40MOP for any stops along its bus route. Do have enough coins to pay exact. Otherwise, one person pays for everybody in the group and let the driver know how many passengers you're paying for.

If you want to go casino hopping, just take the free shuttle service. Most hotels provide shuttle to Ferry Terminal. Then from Ferry Terminal, take your pick of the free shuttle service to whichever casino/hotel that has this service. For us, we went to Venetian and from there, we were able to go to City of Dreams (Hard Rock), then we went back to Venetian, then to Sands. After that, we walked to Wynn.

If you intend to travel to Hong Kong island, then can go via TurboJet at the Ferry Terminal. Turbojet goes to Sheung Wan while the other ferry service goes to Tsim Sha Tsui, I think. Day Service Economy Class costs 160MOP per pax, and Night Service Economy Class costs 185MOP each. The travelling time is 1 hour. However, do allow some buffer for unexpected issues. For example, we experienced craft problem on our return trip to Macau. Had to change ferry, and hence, delayed our return to Macau. We reached Macau at midnight and missed our 'free' transport back to hotel. Hahaaa! Of course, if you're one of those rich people... feel free to take the helicopter...but I'm not sure where the helicopter goes though... Oh.. bring your passport when you travel between Macau and HK.
