hokke fish set

Usually I like to eat saba fish. That's mackerel in plain English. So today decided to try something different, hokke. Someone once said, this one is like Japanese giam he (preserved fish).

Anyway, I ordered and here's how it looked like.

Arabesque greenling (Pleurogrammus azonus)<-- doesn't this sound exotic? Hahaha!

Taste wise, yup, definitely quite salty! So.. in the end, I still prefer saba! Haha

Here's the wiki entry about the fish.

asam laksa flavor! (exotic or not)

If you think I'm gonna eat instant noodles just like that.... well, you're not too far off.. BUT tonight.... got special ingredients....

TADAH! Homemade Yong Tau Foo!

brinjal, beancurd skin, bitter gourd, chili (hidden)

Of course not made by me. My sis prepared it and my brother brought it back here when he returned from our hometown.

instant noodles

Dateless on a Saturday night, hence.. it's time to do DIY dinner. Hmmm.. more like how to finish up the leftovers in the fridge actually...

Start with the ingredients:
1. Instant noodle (this is the must have!)
2. Vegetable (must have.. at least for me)
3. Meat (hmm.. dun have also never mind.. but i'm a meatatarian.. )

ingredients

My sis says this curried flavored noodle (TastyLite version) is spicier than the normal ones.. hmmm.. I find the spicyness is actually in the sense of that artificial sharp taste that is prominent is chemically induced type of food. For example, those wasabi flavored chips that stings.

Because I had leftover vege (think it should be about at least 3-4 days old.. ) and leftover fish (those cheap sutchi fillet) that sat in the fridge for about a week now... (no wonder now its quite tasteless!) hahaa.. anyway..

Cooking time!

bring the soup or flavoring to a boil ( i love induction coooking!)

throw in all the raw ingredients.. actually by right, if you're using a more hardy vege such as chye sim, can boil the vege stems first and the meat.. noodles add last.. but I short cut it coz lazy...

boil it until everything is well-cooked

serve it in a plate, in a bowl.. whatever that you have at home!

Of course, because all the colors are the same... it doesn't capture well when photographed. Strangely, later that night... I dreamt of DSLR.... haha!

morning mrt

crowd at mrt

Scene at JE yesterday morning around 8+. Not sure what happened, but it sure was congested...East bound train arrived every minute or so, but only 1 row of people can go in as it was already quite full. So had to miss like 4 trains before it's my turn to board.. No need to talk about courtesy one.. it feels like every man for himself. Human nature? Was quite tempted to take pic of the inside as everyone was neck to neck, face to face to each other, but then was too chicken to do so.. in case, people get angry that the top of their heads were snapped.. haha

there is still love

Saw a scene in MRT that warmed my heart.. an unknown stranger willingly led a fragile old lady towards the door. Yeah, love still exists!

makan time

Because of Zoe Tay, we ended up at Keppel Club to eat dim sum at Peony Jade. They actually had dim sum high tea at 3pm ($18++ per pax on weekends) but we didn't go for that as we went there at about 10.45am.

The menu is somewhat limited with the usual offerings. Their specialty is the QQ menu (but I don't think it was that cute...)

First item to arrive was the chicken feet. Nothing remarkable. I still like Min Jiang's chicken feet!

Then came the custard and salted egg yolk bun. It came in really small size. One bite can finish all 3! (Ok, ok.. my mouth not that big.. 1 bite finish 2 then...)

golden yellow filling oozing out!

After we finish the last bun and sipped some tea, out came the egg tartlets.
"I think they waited for us to finish one item first before they will serve the next one!" Flo commented.

egg tartlets

They're called tartlets, because once again.. it was tiny! Don't be fooled by the pics.. 'coz I'm using macro mode. But it was still warm and hence, pretty good to eat.

siew mai

Our siew mai was cold and tough. I think by the time high tea comes.. it'll have been properly steamed and soft to eat...(hopefully!)

'dirty' char siew bao

I have never seen char siew bao served with sauce stain on it.. probably one of the bao 'exploded' during steaming? Not sure, but the bao while tiny.. (slightly bigger than custard bun) was tasty. Not the heavy sauce taste but good to eat on its own.

I think I was quite dissappointed with the QQ items. I had higher expectation with regards to its visual appearance but it did not deliver.

look like a butterfly bo?

can see the prawns?

funny looking ducks.. (I think it looked quite hideous!)

The place is quite inaccessible, so best if you're travelling by car.

can't get it out of my head

Alot on my mind recently... Been thinking about stuffs... I thought giving up would be easy.. but it's not as effortless as I thought it would be.

It feels like something is eating me up from the insides.. Probably would go crazy pretty soon.
