unagi ramen in tonkotsu broth

unagi ramen

Doesn't it look like the real thing that you might get from a restaurant? Ok ok, so the plate is a dead giveaway, and it does look kinda plain but I'm sure if I add the egg and some seaweed, it'll look quite 'professional', right? Haha!

Anyway, was walking in NTUC fairprice, and the aunty called out and intro'ed this ramen. The brand is called Ryushobo. The aunty said this thing got no preservative (but then it can be stored till 2011??!!) and need just hot water and it'll be ready to eat in a jiffy. So she got a small sample cup and scooped some noodles into it, and poured a murky colored liquid from her thermos. I asked, "Aunty, is that soup?" She said, "Ya, it comes with the noodles". (Then still say just need water to cook? Cheh...)

Anyways, I bought one pack home. Aiya, $2.45 can get authentic tasting ramen, why not. You know why I seldom order unagi dishes from those Jap restaurant? Yeah, 'coz I can get them for $3.95 per big piece.

So, for this instant dinner I used half an unagi, one serving of ramen (1 pack is 2 servings), some golden mushrooms and some dou miao. Unagi toasted separately and noodles cooked as though we're cooking instant noodles. Don't cook the noodles for too long though 'coz it'll get bitter due to the alkaline. The soup is actually quite tasty (i put quite alot of water as ramen broth tended to be quite salty!), with thin layer of fat/oil.

drooling yet?

Sun with Moon at The Central is having a 30% promo. Here are some pics:

mango and crab maki

The mango and crab maki has no mango taste at all. In fact, it's kinda like your regular maki, and the accompanying wasabi has no effect as well. Priced at $13+, it's actually quite a steep price for that few tiny pieces.

sashimi moriwase

Sashimi moriwase is good for sharing amongst 2 person. Consisting of 6 fishes, which included scallop, hamachi, kajiki, maguro, sake and a single amaebi.

yummy! (psst..the wasabi that comes along the sashimi sure packs a punch!)

Scallop turn out better than previously tried. At least its firmer and fresher this time round and it tasted sweeeeet~. YT said the hamachi is the best. The kajiki is quite big piece but too bad it contained some stubborn veins that made it extra hard to chew.

amusing

Guess who I met on the streets today... can't guess right? It's Steven Lim, the eyebrow plucker guy who's now the MD of his own 'internet modelling' agency. At first I really thought he wanted to pluck my eyebrow... so I siam fast fast, but not fast enough that he managed to catch up.

So he started talking about his 'modelling' agency, and his famous client 'Mediacorp' (with one page evidence of the 'client' thanking his services in providing talent for the 'Polo Boys' show). Anyway, he must've repeated for about 5 to 6 times that he's the MANAGING DIRECTOR of something something .net. He also boasted that his 'talents' comprised of people from all walks of life such as teacher, lawyer etc etc. Haha, not that I was paying attention 'coz I was too busy thinking what the hell this guy wants from me. So after 3mins or so, he was saying how models must pay thousands of dollars to join agency, so for his #1 internet modelling agency in SG, only need x dollars to join as member. So he asked if I had the money now or can go to the bank to take. Then I said, "Heh, let me think about it." He didn't look too happy then. Guess the money is more attractive than talent. Hahahahah

Here's what MrBrown gotta say about Steve Lim's talent agency's webpage content. I shan't put up his site link here 'coz it contains some materials unsuitable for children.

in the middle of nowhere

One day, Danny my former housemate called up and say "It's time to meet-up." Then I replied, "Just pick the date and time.". So, about a week later, he fetched me from Kranji MRT, and along with his wifey, we headed to the plantation in search of Bollywood...

on the way, we passed by the sea...

then we were surrounded by trees... with a long stretch of road ahead...

loitering at Central

Yup, went out and loitered. Below are some pics I took on a cloudy day.

outside of the shopping mall

arty-farty merchants of sg

dark clouds looming

Went to check out the basement level of Central. They got this thing called 'The Market' where it's basically a supermarket (Cold Storage kind) and they got eating joints inside there. There's a Western (spaghetti) and Japanese (serving raw and cooked food). The spaghetti cooked on the spot smells really nice. Then today got 1 man peddling this Japanese bread that costs $18.50. That's the price for a loaf. Yeah, 'coz according to him, everything about the bread is imported from Japan and is organic. The name of his shop is 'Buono' or smthg like that. In Taka.

Outside, there are meat joint called 'Fine Cuts' where you can 'pick n grill'. Min. weight 250gms and grilling fee is $8. They also serve set lunches served with a side and a drink. I couldn't decide whether I wanted to eat Western or Japanese, so I ended up eating........ Subway. Ha...

birthday dinners... finale

Final installment of this year's birthday dinners. Had it at Tampopo, Wendy's treat :)
No queue (hehe, good for us!) and we were seated at about 7.40pm. Ordered quite a lot of stuffs and our table ended up almost fully utilized with the dishes covering 80% of the surface.

first few dishes to arrive (that's Wendy at the other end of the table)

crab porridge (yummo~)

salad (eating healthily!)

deep fried sotong (heh, after the healthy, we indulge in oily!)

Wendy's main course, the mentaiko ramen (that orange blob is not tomato, its mentaiko..... and with super salty soup!!!)

of course, the cake! (coffee chiffon)

It was great catching up. Good food, wonderful company ;)
Cheers!
