many many

So many new camera models have sprout out. Such as Canon G15, S110, EOS M, Sony NEX-6, Fujifilm FX1...Not sure what's the pricing is going to be like but all should be above SGD$700 with EOS M, Nex-6 to be at the higher range.

Think a compact should work fine for me at this moment, although was quite taken with Sony Nex-F3.

Interesting to note know that Fujifilm FX1 has a larger sensor than G15.

dialogue

Me: "Gor, you got anything for the pimples?"
Bro: *rummages for stuffs in his drawer and hands me a small white bottle* "Nah"
Me: "Thanks" And looks at the label on the bottle. *thought the print was too small* Looks up and asks bro, "You can see this stuff ah?"
Bro: *looks at the print* "Can ah.. why? You can't? Wear your specs la..."
Me: Walks back into room and wear specs. Squints at the font size 6 print on the bottle again. "Gor! This thing expired liao! Expiry date Jan 2012!!!"
Bro: Looks nonchalant. "I know ah. Can use one la..."
Me: "Huh..."
Bro: "If you're scared, use tea tree oil. Safest." *hands me tea tree oil*
Me: Quickly checks for expiry but it has none. Manufacturing date was 2010...

bangkok sweets

Got this interesting sweets from a friend.

nice packaging
Karamae Raman

It looks like this, out of the package.

unique wrapping for the sweet treat

For the uninitiated (ie me), please do not pop the entire thing into the mouth and chew! Hahaa! I spat the first one out, as the 'wrapping' was hard and not to be consumed...

Turns out, it was wrapped in betelnut bark. Imagine chewing on a tree bark...

unwrap
small sweet morsel

It actually tasted coconutty, sweet (but not overly so) and its texture is similar to 'dodol'. Googling "Karamae Raman" or "Kalamae Raman" reveals that this sweet treat is made of sticky rice, coconut milk and palm sugar. Some calls it "coconut toffee". Guess the closest one can get to this taste and colour, is toffee.

environmental friendly 'packaging'
chewy dense cake-like and sweet

iPhone 5

Is the world now abuzz with iPhone 5? It was introduced on 12 Sept 2012. Here's the link to the info.

I think I'm quite taken with the 8 MP camera (iSight?? seriously...). The info states that it can do panorama and HD video (even my current 10MP point & shoot compact doesn't have these!).

Suggested retail for 16GB model is USD199 and tentatively to be made available in SG on 21 September. Are you getting one?

AWARE

Was at AWARE's annual ball, called the "Supersonic Big Ball", yesterday evening. Thanks for the invites from Lindy and Faeza. =)

Eventful night, with lots of performances but most importantly, was in awe to be in the company of great women (and men) who has done much in championing the women's rights in Singapore over the past many decades.

To know more about AWARE, here's a link to their website.

night photography

Tagged along with a friend who just purchased an Olympus micro four-third camera for night photography to test the new camera. I'm using my same old same old Canon A2000 IS, so the expectation is lower.

Exited from Esplanade, and there was a rock performance so here's two shots of it.

rockin' it

Then, from Esplanade, there's the CBD skyline so took a few shots as well.

Then, just in time for the MBS light performance so took a couple of those.

Since we're nearby the Gardens By the Bay, we walked over there to take a peek.

moon by The Gardens

Had to borrow the tripod for the Garden's shot 'coz couldn't find any surface to put the camera on. Not too shabby performance from Canon A2000 IS, right?
