Karamae Raman |
It looks like this, out of the package.
|
unique wrapping for the sweet treat |
For the uninitiated (ie me), please do not pop the entire thing into the mouth and chew! Hahaa! I spat the first one out, as the 'wrapping' was hard and not to be consumed...
Turns out, it was wrapped in betelnut bark. Imagine chewing on a tree bark...

small sweet morsel |
It actually tasted coconutty, sweet (but not overly so) and its texture is similar to 'dodol'. Googling "Karamae Raman" or "Kalamae Raman" reveals that this sweet treat is made of sticky rice,
coconut milk and palm sugar. Some calls it "coconut toffee". Guess the closest one can get to this taste and colour, is toffee.

environmental friendly 'packaging' |

chewy dense cake-like and sweet |
