scary people

Went to quite a lot places yesterday. Went to pick up my new spectacles and tried the transition lenses. Hmmm.. seldom use my specs outside of office, so need some getting used to. But the sun wasn't very bright yesterday....well, it was but it then it turned cloudy soon after I reached Orchard.

Anyway, there were two cosplayers on my bus (190 from CCK to Orchard). The girl was wearing a dress and stockings, plus headgear. Must be perspiring like mad inside, since the bus was stuffy and crowded.

Alighted nearby Heeren and soon after was accosted by two ladies. They said they just opened a breakfast joint and wanted to do a 5 minute survey. At first, I thought they were going to ask me to go to church or something. So, they asked if I could go with them to their cafe to do the survey. Ok, thinking back, it did sound like a weird request, but at that moment, I innocently agreed. So we walked. They led me to Midpoint Orchard, and into a shop called "Dreamz House". From the outside, you can't really see what's inside, 'coz there were paper pasted to cover the glass panels. Inside, there was a bar counter and behind it, I saw a row of blenders. It certainly does not look nor feel like a cafe nor restaurant. More like a place that people come to listen to some hard sell sales pitch that kind.

The ladies claimed that it is a 'new concept healthy breakfast' that started in Korea and Taiwan. Then they asked for my height and weight. They even had a weighing scale. Ok. By now, it was very obvious to anyone that something fishy is going on!

Looking around, it was obvious that they were selling some herbal supplement products. Those that people drink to lose weight, to detox and whatever. Obviously, they are going around asking unsuspecting people to come and see their 'breakfast shop' in order to get them to sign up for membership and buy their products whatsoever. Wasted no time and got my butt out of there as fast as I can. These people are even scarier than the ghouls prowling the streets on Halloween.

chanced encounter

Was at Heeren when the sound of the chinese lion dance was heard. Thought it was in conjunction with the Courts opening near CentrePoint (didn't know Ian Rush was there at Courts!).

So went out to kaypoh kaypoh (because I wanted to check out *Scape anyway), and saw there was a mini parade going on!

storm trooper

cute

they seemed to be enjoying the jumps!

predators on the prowl in Orchard Road...

SMU also came out to play

poor gundam that had difficulty walking, and his costume looks about to fall apart...

Watched the cosplayers, lion dance and mini parade for a bit, then proceeded to *Scape building.

*Scape

they had this contraption outside of the building

We were exploring around the outside of the building, and saw the parade and cosplayers coming back.

fancy an asian wolverine anyone?

Everyone had DSLR, and what do I have? A compact. Ha ha. Felt a bit paiseh also. Approached some cosplayers and they were quite obliging.

green ranger

he actually had quite nice eyes, but he put on the goggles when posing in character... wasted siah! haha

Went into the basement of *Scape building as they were having some fair there. Gundams were on display, and I told YT that my sis would love this!

Think, someone inside there told me that there's going to be a Gundam fair coming up in September.

hehe, ping pong and beer anyone?

There are retail shops inside the building, which sells clothes, lomo cameras, figurines, and a few restaurants (there's a maid's cafe also). There's also a KBox and Ocean Butterfly Music School. As it was still early, we went to the corridor outside of Camp Pong, and took a few shots of the happenings downstairs.

this was shot nearer to the cafe and food kiosks

nice costume (purple and red)

Merly and Lyo also came

V for Vendetta

so cute

Nothing much to explore after that, so we went to Raindrops Cafe for dinner... at 5.30pm, can you imagine? Because we were kiasu, and the indoor dining only had a capacity of 15 diners. Was told that most tables were reserved for 630pm onwards, so we were offered to share a table with 2 other diners but it was actually an area with 3 tables meant for 6 pax, so not too bad because there was a one table gap in between of us.

window seat

Ordered tataki tuna for starters because it was written on the menu board as recommended.

tataki tuna

I think it was seared too much. YT said it tasted like beef!

mushrooms quite yummy but some were bitter! (probably was in close contact too long with the rocket leaves.. )

For our mains, YT ordered ribeye steak, while I opted for meltique beef (prime cut). The meat is from Australia. Both of our dishes came with the exact combo, with the exception that mine has cherry tomatoes. Even the sauce is exactly the same red wine sauce.

i like this picture!

ribeye

ribeye, medium rare

The beef was tender and has a nice flavour, and I liked it! We didn't have any desserts because I think we had too much meat.. hahaha!

On our way to Taka, once again, we passed by the cosplayers, and I took this picture:

masked rider amongst mere mortals

Then went to Takashimaya to walk walk, and what do you know... they had food fair in the basement. So, we do what we had to do.. which was, to check it out of course! Saw this cute cute mochi, so YT bought to try.

ringo, kuki and momo

mine was red bean paste inside, while the other 2 had peach and chrysanthemum flavoured fillings..

Then, there was this shop from Tampines One was giving away pork buns for free. We do, what Singaporeans loved to do. Queue up for free food!

piping hot buns, for free!

Ate so much, gasps.. more rounds in the stadium!

more chrismassy sights~

And there we went, along the stretch of Orchard from Paragon leading to Somerset 313. Yea man, that's the current place to see and be seen. Apparently... haha!

So, HS and me went to get our dinner from Paragon basement, so along the way, here's what I caught on camera.

interesting sculpture

Then we ate dinner, and afterwards we passed by the M1 shop in Paragon. Long queues siah! Probably all buying iPhone? When we moved back up to the streets, it was already dark.

nice?

dazzling, with reindeers circling the tree

Then beside the lights, there's this huge Santa that'll turn slowly. In fact, it's everywhere in Ocrhard.

somehow, 'ol santa looked kinda sinister here~!

What's Orchard without the crowds. Here's an image of the people and lights.

bustling with activities on a Friday night

Finally, came to Somerset 313. The building is just like a squarish box, nothing to shout about. But there's the lights that comes and goes at its outer wall surface. Kinda interesting. It's quite cute coz the lights runs somewhat fast and yours truly was clumsily trying to capture these on camera...

no lights

with lights

Orchard Central on the outer side has far more colourful lightings.

Orchard Central

Finally, Somerset 313. Our destination for the night.

shop shop shop!

Before you enter, look up and you'll be greeted by this:

Somerset 313 has arrived!

Of course, you need to watch where you're going also. We heard a loud clink, and apparently a man has his mouth/face knocked by the glass door. It sure felt painful. Beware shoppers! Look where you're heading and if you're pushing some glass door, do it gently... There're a lot of distractions inside the shop that might make you stop and look, so try not to do so in a too abrupt manner, and the people following behind, can observe the 5 secs rule? Keep ya distance, otherwise glaring incidents might occur and tempers may fly! Preachy, I know. But safety first.

That done, HS and me did spend from like 730pm till 11pm at Somerset 313. Lots of bargains 'coz of the shops opening. Uniqlo has alot of limited offer items, and equally as many shoppers.. should look at their cashiers.. all lined up and ready to take your $$$. Kaching!!

Happy Shopping!
