of angel hair and moscato

Thought I'd cook myself dinner tonight. So I did. But first, had to go grocery shopping as most of the stuffs in the house had expired... Yeap, that's how long I didn't cook! (instant noodles not counted)

Bought pasta sauce earlier, so that was sitting in the fridge. Just needed pasta (angel hair), garlic sausages (NTUC housebrand), and sliced button mushrooms. Got a bottle of moscato too. Long Flat had a discount like a dollar, so thought it'd be nice to have some wine with pasta. Hahaa.

First time cooking angel hair, and it was a piece of cake. Cooks in less than 2 minutes too. Cool! Used 2 pieces of sausages and some mushrooms. Toasted them a bit in the toaster. The sauce was tricky. There was too little liquid in the beginning, hence the bottom of the steel pot got fried! Simmered the pasta with the sauce and tossed them around abit to get the pasta warmed up again ('coz I doused it with ice while waiting for the sauce to cook).

End result looked like this.

messy looking angel hair pasta with sausages, mushroom in tomato sauce
yummy garlic sausages and mushrooms
with cheese

Dinner was filling! Was greedy. Pasta was just right, but had too much sausages... 2 pieces! Paired that with a nice chilled sweet wine. Yums.

moscato i like

@fat cat

Was at Fat Cat yesterday for dinner. Rained at E-Centre, so took a cab there. Directions would be something like, Serangoon Avenue 3, then turn right to Jalan Girang, then at the junction turn left, then straight up and taxi uncle would comment something like, "here got makan place meh?" and then turn right when you see Jalan Riang signage that's almost obscured by the trees...

Second visit. Ordered a tequila sunrise, and an aglio olio.

pretty tequila sunrise

Turned out the aglio olio still came from Flamin Grills. Same as first visit where I got the steak from,

seafood aglio olio

The seafood aglio olio came last. Quite a long waiting time. This is the driest aglio olio that I've ever tried thus far. Personally, would prefer tomato based pasta anytime. Plus point, would be the fresh seafood where the prawns were cooked just right and slightly translucent. The squid rings were huge and tender.

We also shared a tom yum soup from Thai Yai but the soup disappoints. Tasted of just the salt/fish sauce but not much of a 'body'. Could do with more flavour.

ingredients such as squid, prawns, tomatoes and clams

Mr R had steak and he said that it tasted good. Cherlyn n HS had phad thai, and I had a sampling of it.

phad thai
Phad thai was alright, though I prefered the prawns from aglio olio. Didn't get any desserts because everyone was full.

Thanks guys for waiting, as I was the last one to turn up.

hangout

We like to hangout. We like to hangout and eat dinner. We like to hangout and eat dinner and have drinks. We like to hangout and eat dinner and have drinks and .... Haha, does that look a little like what Bart Simpson might be writing on his blackboard?

Watami at ION Orchard is the place that we tried, based on HS's suggestion.

who? me?

Had to contend with long queues, so we guai guai waited. Got a table when it is close to what time was that? 9pm. Yes, late dinner! Can't wait any longer for the food...

yummy salad, vege is good but i like the meat better

baked rice

sotong

wafu steak which was super salty

cheese croquette (third cheese item after baked rice, potato gratin....!)

brownies and ice-cream

After dinner, it was to Gustimo for ice-cream and drinks. World Cup was on, but that section was fully reserved. Which was just as well, 'coz Brazil was defeated that night, and it would be heartbreaking for someone to watch her boy cry... Hahaa!

minimum order, 3 scoops, and all squeezed into a tiny cup.. swell

Who ate the cone ah? I came out from washroom, it was gone!

dinner with Wendy

It's that time of the year again for our birthday meet-up, but was delayed for a fair bit since Wendy needed to do some travelling to Japan and Ba.. gosh, which remote country was that again? Bratislava. It's a place in Slovakia. Now for abit of Geography.. because I needed it. Good to get our bearings right, right?

Slovakia is here:

And its town, Bratislava here:

Cool right? Haha! I think she also said something about Vienna's famous cake that's found in a hotel, so I guessed it's this one. Have to wait till she post the pics to fb! Hehe.

So yesterday catching up session was fun, and I was quite fascinated by her adventures in Japan. It's almost like reliving Japan hour all over again. She went to one of the World Heritage site, of a village with thatched roof, and stayed there. Awesome!

my little present from Japan, which Wendy said she bought it 'coz of the rabbit

it's sweet~

As for our dinner, we were at Itacho as she haven't tried it yet. Of course, I MUST MUST order my 40cents sushi! Wahahahaa!

egg

spicy something

wasabi squid and ikura

wafu pork salad

ark shell and mackerel

extremely thin slice of pork sushi

my all time favourite, 40cents sushi (per piece)

dorsal sushi? not much taste

with scallop on top

sweet potato (can skip) that looks good but doesn't taste as nice

pumpkin ice-cream, recommended

As usual, we always say we SHOULD meet up not just during our birthdays. So, see you during Christmas! And thanks for the dinner!

family dinner

Was at aunt's place for dinner, but unfortunately she couldn't join us as she has line dance jamming session.

dining table - food is not yet served

dining table - full, platefuls of goodies!

corriander.. love it or hate it (I still eat it since it's part of the decor for the dishes, but it smells like flying ants!)

My cousin Alvin and his gf, Jos, joined us for dinner as well. After eating, we realized that there were 6 dishes for the 6 of us. Which meant, each one of us, needed to polished off one entire dish of something, say that entire plate of chicken wings! Wow... sis, you really needa cut down on the amount cooked! Haha!

But I must say, if my sis decides to go into the F&B industry, I'd be her first supporter!

unagi ramen in tonkotsu broth

unagi ramen

Doesn't it look like the real thing that you might get from a restaurant? Ok ok, so the plate is a dead giveaway, and it does look kinda plain but I'm sure if I add the egg and some seaweed, it'll look quite 'professional', right? Haha!

Anyway, was walking in NTUC fairprice, and the aunty called out and intro'ed this ramen. The brand is called Ryushobo. The aunty said this thing got no preservative (but then it can be stored till 2011??!!) and need just hot water and it'll be ready to eat in a jiffy. So she got a small sample cup and scooped some noodles into it, and poured a murky colored liquid from her thermos. I asked, "Aunty, is that soup?" She said, "Ya, it comes with the noodles". (Then still say just need water to cook? Cheh...)

Anyways, I bought one pack home. Aiya, $2.45 can get authentic tasting ramen, why not. You know why I seldom order unagi dishes from those Jap restaurant? Yeah, 'coz I can get them for $3.95 per big piece.

So, for this instant dinner I used half an unagi, one serving of ramen (1 pack is 2 servings), some golden mushrooms and some dou miao. Unagi toasted separately and noodles cooked as though we're cooking instant noodles. Don't cook the noodles for too long though 'coz it'll get bitter due to the alkaline. The soup is actually quite tasty (i put quite alot of water as ramen broth tended to be quite salty!), with thin layer of fat/oil.

drooling yet?
