Singapore Night Festival

31st August marked the last day of the Singapore Night Festival 2013. Am always appreciative of the arts, and hence, was agreeable when friend suggested to take a look at this. Meeting point was at Plaza Singapura, so went to the nearby Singapore National Museum to have a look.

Ooh, since we were at Plaza Sing, home of SG Tim Ho Wan first outlet, naturally, I'd like to see if the queue is still as long. And the answer is, YES. Still long queues, be it 5pm or 7pm. What about Tsukada Nojo (Bijin Nabe). Well, no queue but there was a sign that stated that their queue list is FULL,  at 6pm. Hmm. Anyway, Plaza Sing was practically swarming with people looking for dinner. Good business! Hahaa.

Passed by The Cathay.

"Blank Canvas" event
battle of the freshest?

From afar, there was a snaking queue to enter The Cathay. Thought the Night Festival so happening, at first. Then found out that the queue was likely for 1D aka One Direction. Uh huh. And if not wrong, it wasn't that they were here (were they?). It was 1D movie premiere if not wrong. Power of youth.

Moving along, and passed by SOTA (School of the Arts). The Night Fest installation is named "Paperplanes".

Light Sculpture

Passed by Rendezvous Hotel. Darn. Should've gone to Balzac Brasserie and get their $10 snack deal for the Night Festival.

713pm

National Museum of Singapore (NMS) is a beauty.

litted facade

Plenty of peeps, some at the back with tripods and huge ass cameras or videocam and mostly armed with ipad or galaxy tab, smartphones etc. Quite a bit of family with prams and strollers, young children. All littered around the grounds of NMS.

my friend said that's where the performers shall be performing, being held by the crane

But not that night. Didn't see any stunts where performers were hoisted up in the air. But we did see projections onto the facade of the museum. Here's a video of it:

Think the scheduled performaces didn't really follow the schedule. The only performance that we saw at 830pm was the OIC Singapore where the artist(s) manipulated the digital canvas in real-time, and with life musician providing the music. Jamming session between multimedia artist and musicians. Hmm. Thought it was a little dark and disturbing because of the graphics and the music chosen for this performance. Too cheems for me.

leaving

The night was hot and humid, so dropped by Raffles City for coffee at Tiong Bahru Bakery. First time trying their coffee (provided from 40 Hands?). No problem finding a table at around 830pm. Seems like youngsters nowadays can really eat. The table next to us was just two dainty looking ladies and they each have a coffee, one item for themself (like a soup with bread, or a pastry) and another plate of something to share. And that something looked like a huge square of meatloaf.

almond croissant and mocha

Liked the mocha and almond croissant. Too bad no flan was available for that night.
