weekend dim sum

Sometimes during weekend, my dad will drive us to Balakong to eat dim sum. Of course Kajang has dim sum shops but we still like to go to this remote place to eat...

communal eating

Almost every time that I'm back at home, my sis would likely cook us some nice stuffs to eat. Hehe, she'll have some new creation at some point in time. So this time round, it was pumpkin as the bowl (reminds me of some exotic dish for the emperor). And of course, she has to have her fav dish, the la-la.

soup of the day

Ingredients:
1. Pork bak kut (6 pieces)
2. 2 sweet corn (break into half)
3. 1 small radish
4. 1 apple
5. 1 tomato

Rub meat with salt and wash. Marinate the meat with soy sauce and pepper and keep in fridge until time to cook. Blanch meat in hot water. Cut the radish, apple and tomato into sizeable chunks. Wash everything and put into cooking pot. Cover with water and boil for half hour, turn down the heat and boil for another 20 minutes (or until taste come out).

ta dah! tasty healthy soup (after)

Add a little salt to bring out the taste. This is a sweet soup.

cooking time

Made pumpkin porridge some time ago... Looking at the pics, it kinda reminds me of hospital food. Ha!

pumpkin porridge

too much rice in the porridge!

Simple recipe:
1. Pork meat
2. Carrots
3. Pumpkin (a quarter small pumpkin)

I din't put extra salt.. just the salt used to marinate the meat. Basically can put anything you like into the porrdige. Also did one version with chicken wings and spinach.

couch potato speaks

hey ya.. that's my full time job. Being a couch potato.. a lounge lizard.. a bummer..

But then again, can't really wean me off something I grew up doing.. watching television programmes. Watching is such an understatement... engrossed.. perhaps enmeshed or ingrained! Those are more apt. haha

Anyway, shows worth watching are:
1. Solved (#Okto, every fridays 10pm)
2. The Mentalist (Channel 5, Tuesdays 10pm)
3. Fringe (Channel 5, Monday I forgot wat time....)

Solved has replaced CSI as my favourite crime show. Creepy because its all based on real cases. Bizarre, and warped. Humans are most incomprehensible sometimes. Made me think that humans are born evil. Just saw a case 2 weeks back, the case where the husband killed the wife and hacked off her lower jaw and finger tips in order to destroy forensic evidence. Just today, I saw in newspaper, about a husband (who has yet to be caught and believed to have fled to Canada) who killed his model wife and cut off her teeth and fingertips and dumped her body in a garbage dump.

The Mentalist is cool with the cocky Patrick Jane, who in turn is plagued by the fact that he caused the death of his family in the hands of a serial killer whom he had offended. Sometimes quite obvious what he's trying to do, and what he's doing to his suspect's mind.

Fringe is a joy for all ex-xFiles fans. Science and law enforcement are a such a good formula for TV shows.

chewy dough

My brother bought a box of 5 chewy juniors. Been wanting to try these out of curiosity but haven't got a chance to do so. Bro said it averages out to about like less than a dollar each. Ok lor, I eat free one no complaints!

buy 4 get 1 free

strawberry top

blueberry top

apple top

almond top (note the oddly shaped dough? 'coz i put in my mouth first before thought of taking a pic hehe!)

So I ate the almond and the chocolate one. Taste wise, it reminds me of Beard Papa, but with a chewy dough. Usually its vanilla(i think..) cream inside while the chocolate one had a chocolate cream. The almond toppings had a condensed milk like base to stick the almonds, combined with the cream inside.. it's very very sweet!

plain old chocolate top

Chocolate ones, tasted pretty normal...

creamy insides

So there you go, Chewy Juniors. Been there, done that.

Orchard Road

ION

arty farty stuff?

The landscape of Orchard has new additions! As I walked around Wisma, Tangs and Taka, I found quite a number of good looking people (youngsters!) on a Friday night. Saw a bunch of people sitting inside the Tangs glass window, and found out they were having a blogathon. I suaku leh... what's a blogathon? A blog marathon lor, I suppose. Haha! Anyway, click here to see their postings and this event is held in conjunction with the soon-to-be-launched Lenovo Ideapad U350. Speaking of this Lenovo thingy, they had the showgirls in front of Tangs. So I also went up to them to get a leaflet to see wat's the config and stuffs. You know what... I think the showgirls were expecting guys to be more techie or something, 'coz I stood in front of her and she didn't hand me a pamphlet till like her colleague gave her an eye signal. What? I cannot buy laptop isit? Tsk tsk...

saturday appointments

Met up with ML for early lunch to catch up. Went to Wisma Atria and decided to have lunch at DTF.

chili crab xlb (was told that this dish comes out once a year for the Food Festival)

tasted just like chili crab with some pork i think

The chili crab xlb is currently having 15% off for Citibank members, so 4 pieces is about $5.10++.

After lunch, naturally, we shopped. What to do... When in Rome, do as the Romans do.. so when in Orchard, do what Orchardrians do.... Shop till drop! We were purposeful. ML was thinking of getting bags and pillows while I need to get the birthday presents for July babies.

Went around, poking our noses in shops that we encountered. We shopped from Wisma to Ngee Ann, from Ngee Ann to Taka, from Taka to OG, and from OG back to Taka. In between, we had coffee!

cake to go along with the coffee

After buying our stuffs, it was time for another gathering with the alumnus. The occasion is to meet-up over crab dinner! Location: Mellben Seafood at Toa Payoh.

the whole gin gang

As it is zhi char, we ordered other stuffs like fried tofu, 'playboy' chicken which is basically just fried chicken cutlet with Thai chili sauce, crabs and spinach.

supposedly 'playboy' chicken (??)

main cast (for dinner, that is) - 金沙 crab

Didn't take any pictures for chili crab 'coz too busy eating and didn't wanna handle the camera with my 'saucy' hands. Haha!

deep fried man-tou

Then as the night drew on... we went to have drinks with durians.

hey, I didn't know the durian was these colors as it was quite dark! The darker colored ones taste better as the flesh is more fragrant and softer and the seeds were smaller as well

Another definitive product or rather, touristy product from Hokkaido is the chocolate from the Ishiya Chocolate factory.

If you're at Hokkaido, remember to try this.
