beautiful sunday at the esplanade

A friend suggested to catch a performance at the Esplanade, and the only thing going on at 3pm, was the 'Beautiful Sunday' performance series held at the concert hall once a month on a Sunday. It's free, so why not! Hahaa!

Today was lucky, 'coz Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Orchestra played, and conducted by Volker Hartung with a special appearance on the piano by Filippo Faes.

They played the 'Overture to the Barber of Seville' (Rossini), 'Four Movements from Modern Times' (Chaplin), 'Gold & Silver Waltz' (Lehar), 'Vocalise' (Rachmaninov) and 'Rhapsody in Blue' (Gershwin).

It was nice performance, my very first orchestra in a concert hall! But of course, since it is a free performance, we got a mix of crowd with the usual suspects who brought young children who made some noise, some older folks who rustled their plastic bags or cleared their throat or talked in the hall during the performance. And some who clapped when not time to clap yet. Haha! Commoners, we are.

All in all, the concert was enjoyable and lasted about an hour.

After that, went outside to explore a little.

MBS anyone?

Besides music, visual art is another item being showcased.

After that, saw an interesting character in Marina Square promoting Silkair exotic tourist destination.

Below are the pieces found in youtube for your listening pleasure:
